Heating with an air conditioner this winter
Gas went up 29 % on 1 October. A modern inverter gives 3–4 kWh of heat per 1 kWh of electricity — that is why more and more people heat with an AC.
Before winter it is important to check that the unit defrosts correctly and the drain does not freeze: otherwise the outdoor unit ices up and heats worse. If your current unit cannot handle frost, see models heating down to −25 °C.

What a proper cleaning includes — our director explains
- Servicing: how often and what it includesAn air conditioner needs servicing at least once a year at home and twice a year in commercial premises — manufacturers' manuals say so. A dirty unit loses efficiency and worsens air quality; warning signs are odour, noise and weak cooling or heating. Proper servicing means chemical and steam cleaning of the coils, dismantling and cleaning the fan drum, and checking current, pressure and outlet temperature — not just rinsing the filters.
- When to book cleaning: off-seasonBook servicing in early autumn or late spring: in summer installers are swamped, and people sometimes wait months for a service visit.
- Why it doesn't blow warm air right away in winterIn heating mode the indoor fan only starts once the compressor has built up pressure in the coil and a sensor confirms it. So 7–10 minutes without warm air is normal, especially in cold weather; if it still hasn't started after half an hour, it's worth having it checked.
