In short. A 6 kW air-to-water heat pump costs from 103 876 lei in our catalogue, a 12 kW one from 123 068 lei. That is the equipment; installation, the tank and pipework are priced after a visit. Air-to-air means an air conditioner with heating: from 9 910 lei per room, installed. Heat from both costs about 2.5 times less than gas-boiler heat: with gas at 26.14 lei per m³, a house burning 1 500 m³ a season saves about 24 300 lei a year. An air-to-water pump pays back its equipment in 3.8–6.4 years, three air conditioners in a small house in about 3.8 years.

Two kinds of heat pump

Both take heat from outdoors and give 2–4 kWh of heat per 1 kWh of electricity. The difference is what they heat.

  • Air-to-water heats the water in radiators, underfloor heating and the hot-water tank. It replaces the gas boiler completely, hot water included. It is a project: pump, tank, pipework, wiring.
  • Air-to-air is an inverter air conditioner with heating. It heats the room it is in and cools in summer. Fitted in 3–5 hours, no renovation.

What an air-to-water pump costs

Heiko THERMAL equipment prices in our catalogue — monobloc with hydronic module, works down to −25 °C:

Heiko THERMAL 99 kWseparate tank113 516 lei
Heiko THERMAL 1212 kWseparate tank123 068 lei
Heiko THERMAL PLUS 66 kWbuilt-in tank152 595 lei

On top of the equipment come works that depend on the house:

  • Installation and pipework: placing the monobloc, connecting it to the heating system, commissioning.
  • A hot-water tank, if the pump has no built-in one. The PLUS version already has it.
  • Wiring: a dedicated line and breaker sized for the pump.
  • The heating system: if there is none, or it has old cast-iron radiators — underfloor heating or new radiators. The pump is most efficient with water at 35–45 °C.

Nobody can honestly quote a turnkey price without seeing the house: two houses of the same size can lose heat at twice the rate of each other. So we start with a visit and a calculation.

What air-to-air costs for a whole house

Example: a house with two bedrooms of 20–25 m² and a living room up to 35 m². We fit units that heat down to −30 °C:

About 30 800 lei for three rooms in total (prices as of 20 October 2026). Materials — pipework, brackets, trunking — are priced at the free survey. All models that heat in frost are in Air conditioners with heating.

When it pays back

At ANRE tariffs: gas 26.14 lei per m³ from 1 October, electricity 3.56 lei per kWh. Over a season the pump gives on average 3 kWh of heat per 1 kWh of electricity — a cautious figure for our winter. Find in your bills how much gas the house burns in a heating season:

Gas per season nowGas, lei a yearHeat pump, lei a yearSaving a yearAir-to-water: equipment pays back in
1 000 m³26 1009 90016 2006.4 years (6 kW)
1 500 m³39 20014 90024 3004.7 years (9 kW)
2 000 m³52 30019 90032 4003.8 years (12 kW)

The pump's payback counts equipment only: installation and a tank add to it.

The air conditioners in the example above will not replace gas completely: they heat three rooms and make no hot water. Say that in a house burning about 1,000 m³ a season they take half of the heat — autumn, spring and mild days — and the boiler does the rest. Then the saving is about 8 100 lei a year, and 30 800 lei for three installed units pays back in roughly 3.8 years. A detailed heat-cost calculation is in How much heating with an air conditioner costs per month.

Where to start

  • A flat, or a house with a working boiler: start with air conditioners. They cover October–November and March, and the boiler runs only in frost. The fastest payback.
  • A house being built, or where the heating is being replaced: look at air-to-water with underfloor heating — easier to plan before finishing.
  • You want to leave gas completely, hot water included: only air-to-water.

Prices as of 20 October 2026, from the arcticaservice.md catalogue. Tariffs: gas 26.14 lei/m³ (ANRE, from 01.10.2026), electricity 3.56 lei/kWh (Premier Energy, ANRE regulated price from 02.04.2026; FEE Nord 3.95). Approximate calculation: 1 m³ of gas ≈ 9.3 kWh, boiler efficiency 90 %, seasonal heat-pump COP 3. Real figures depend on the house, insulation and model.
